To date, there's 13 Final Fantasy titles excluding the so called sequels and prequels of FF7. Along the way, I'm sure some of us (even FF fans) must've stopped and questioned ourselves... Are there too many out there now? How many FF are actually worth it? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the FF series. But looking at the games they recently have out, it was sad to see the overmilking that they're doing. I almost wish that FF would really be FINAL and have a graceful exit. To me, anything after FF7,8, and 9 were hopeless... (in exception to the DS remakes). FFX was just BARELY passable as it's clicheness just kill off any hope for it sticking into my head... and then comes X-2 to overmilk even THAT not-so-sticking piece.
The overmilking of FFVII... That would be the final draw... It WAS the best thing that ever came out (well next to chrono trigger and chrono cross), the movie was a nice gesture as a tiny continuation of the story... But when Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core came along... It just makes you wonder... When will it ever end? Please, before you flame about how great those games are... Judge with a clear head... Imagine if those games came out with the exact same storyline but individual from FFVII. Imagine if they have nothing to do with FFVII, the franchise, the title, the characters, the story... nothing to do with FFVII... is it even good or worth it or deep at all? Recall why you loved FFVII so much, it was because it had a really indepth storyline, a solid theme, an amazing soundtrack, a brilliant cast, and CHARACTER! Right now, those games just fly off the shelf because they have the FFVII logo on it. So really, Final Fantasy, Brilliant Series, now just an Overmilked Franchise.
