Steam = WTF?? UGH!!!

I used to think Steam was a pretty useful and innovative system for downloading, verifying, updating and playing games.

Not anymore.

I just recently purchased my copy of Empire total war through steam. Guess what? it's going to take something like the entire friggen day to download, seeing as this damn game is 15 GB in size. I admit 15 gb is not the usual fare for most games, but the whole thing wouldn't be such a hassle if it wasn't dling so damn slow. Right now it's going at about 100 kb/sec (The optimal speed was 512 kb/sec) probably cause everyone is dling the stupid game at the same time and the server is way too busy to handle the load. Not only that, but Steam won't even let me choose which drive to install the game - I had to clear out tons room out of my C drive by killing other games just to make room for this beast (which ALSO wouldn't be a problem if they would let me install in my D drive!) To top this shit off, buying hardcopy of ETW doesn't help at all - you still have to use steam to dl the damn game!!

Steam is an online games distributor, developed by Valve corp. Steam is an attempt to prevent online piracy by making people register their games online (or they can download the game directly from their servers) first before they can play them. This applies to customers who bought hardcopy as well .

I've only heard complaints from other people that use Steam, and I usually dismiss it as just people with shitty internet connection or something whenever they have problems with downloading/registering their games. I never had so much trouble with Steam before with the previous games I bought through them..

In this case, it's not totally Steam's fault, it's creative assembly's (the studio who developed the total war series) as well. The game is TOO DAMN HUGE to dl directly from steam... it took almost two days for me to dl it with something like an average of 400kb/s dl rate. Not only that, but it's a 15 gb crash happy mess - the game is still fun and good, but it looks like they were rushed to finish it and it shows. I guess my expectations were too high from an award winning series, but it looks like they've always had these stupid problems with their vanilla games. It's a good thing they released a patch immediately afterwards, at least they're not trying to completely alienate their customers...
