If you're part of the majority middleclass group in society, Public transit is something that you experience every single day. During rush hour, the desparation and the ugliness of human nature spills out unto the crowded stage. The dry, frozen, white lands of winter littered by dozens of shivering people; all of whom lining up angrily, but patiently, for the bus. And then it happens, a line cutter appears.
People line up because it is an unspoken rule of society and of morals that we enter any premises in an orderly fashion so that we remain civilized and fair. The line cutters so naturally blend him/herself into the front of the line that no one dares speak up to shoo the linecutter since no one else would've noticed it. I have witnessed quite a few times where 4 women, in around their mid 40s, who ended up in the beginning of a very very busy line of a McCowan 129... and they weren't even IN the line before... How did they get there?
From my memory of the events, they just walked RIIGHT up to the front of the line when they got here. When someone tried to speak up about it, one of the ladies gave the man a look, and started talking about how people are discriminating their race (the ladies were one of the middle-eastern or indian) and everything... At that point i just started thinking something like "ya, if that man was indeed discriminating you, he had all the right reasons. and you were the one who gave the man a reason to discriminate."
Seriously, the case i just described above, i've witnessed that quite a few times... It really leads to another societal question... while we're combating against racism, are we also giving some minority groups a right to just yell out "DISCRIMINATION!" as a threat and excuse to do wrong?
